Sterling has been long on the lips of the powers that be at Chelsea, and indeed plenty of other admirers across the country, and last night be proved exactly why. Not only did the England under-19 international score Chelsea’s fourth of the evening – the goal that well and truly wrapped up the victory for the Blues – but he was crucial in two of the other Blues’ strikes on the night.
Sterling provided the cross for Ike Ugbo’s improvised over-head kick, and yet another powerful run and delivery out the right in the second of the half led to substitute Cole DaSilva’s effort ending up in the back of the City net. The 17-year-old was at it all night, running City’s Tyreke Wilson absolutely ragged for the whole ninety minutes with his electric pace on the touch-line.
Originally signed as a defender (you wouldn’t believe it if you watched him), Sterling has bright future with both Chelsea and England if he continues to improve at the rate he currently is.
